Summer school holiday programs for Sydney kids

Summer is finally here and keeping the kids entertained for six whole weeks during school holidays can seem like a daunting task. Luckily, there are tons activities for all interests and age groups around Sydney. Here are a few of our favourite fun and educational ways kids can spend summer.

#1 Summer science programs in Centennial Parklands

Ideal for kids between 5-12 years old, Centennial Parklands Fizzics Education program is presented by a science educator with plenty of surprises to delight the kids. The Chemical Concoctions class on 23 January will have the kids mixing things together to create gooey slime, milk rainbows and so much more.

#2 Golf Camp at Moore Park

The Sydney Golf Academy located at Moore Park Golf is a great complex for kids learning or developing their golf game. Depending on the skill level, book a casual class, a school holiday program or regular 1:1 class for kids. While the little golfers are busy playing, parents can relax on the patio at the cafe or practice on their own game at the new driving range. There are classes for kids aged 3-6 and 7-14, years old, some classes require no experience.

#3 Radio, TV and filmmaking at Entertainment Quarter

The Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) has a great offering of school holiday courses for kids and teens. Located at the AFTRS’ state-of-the-art studios in the Entertainment Quarter and taught by industry experts, this program is fun and educational. For kids 9 -12 years old, there is digi animation, make a stop-motion movie, screen acting, TV presenting, and AFTRS film club. Courses for teens 13-17 years old include 3D digital character design, movie makeup and skill development workshops for budding filmmakers.

#4 Garden activities for under 5s at Royal Botanic Garden Sydney

Children up to 5 years old and their parents or carers are invited to join the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney Education Officers every Thursday from 15 December – 17 January at the Dandy Lions workshop. Activities include garden discovery walks, singing, dance, planting, harvesting and nature-based crafts.

#5 Crafts and nature-based games at Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan

Eco Art Workshop at the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan is designed to entertain kids aged 5 – 12 years old. Children that love plants and animals will love this workshop as they play with nature based art games. This class takes place on 16 January and parents will be delighted to know that the café in the Garden has a terrific menu. While the kids are occupied, spend time walking the beautiful, peaceful surrounds of the Garden.

#6 Family theatre at the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah

A family outing in the cool-climate Blue Mountains Botanic Garden is a great way to escape the heat. Not only have they opened a new restaurant with a dedicated kids menu, but they also have great summer programs like Mountain Critter Capers happening on the 17, 18, 19 January.

Join the Mountain Critters on a one hour interactive tour around the Garden in a roving performance. There will be songs, jokes and surprises to keep the kids entertained.
