ParkScience - Superpowers in Nature

Did you know that aeroplanes are modelled after birds? Have you ever thought about how nature has inspired science innovation?

Children will explore all about what humans have learnt from nature to create amazing scientific innovations to create many wonderful things. This program is based on the concept of biomimicry, commonly defined as innovation inspired by nature, or the practice of applying lessons learned from nature for scientific innovation. Kids will enjoy the hands-on activities and use problem-solving skills and teamwork to create their own nature-inspired inventions in this fun-filled 2-hour program.

Nature & Art - Eco Art for Kids

Age: children aged 5-12 years

Let your children join us for two hours outdoors in the park for an afternoon of creativity from natural materials.

If your kids have a love for nature, plants and animals and want to explore their creative side, then this art workshop is for them! We will play some nature-based art games working with a range of art mediums and natural materials to make a series of works to either leave in situ (on-site) or take home.

Little Red Riding Hood

Age: children from 4 years old

Be careful that you don’t stray too far from the path in this interactive tale of Little Red Riding Hood.

This roving performance tells the classic tale we all know and love with the chance for the audience to be in the story.

Meet all of your favourite characters- the hungry wolf, the sweet and innocent Red Riding Hood, and the huntsman as they tell this delightful tale set in the forest that is as enchanting as the story itself.

Be a part of this Aussie adaptation of the fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood by dressing up to be a part of the show. (no previous acting experience required)

This is a highly interactive 50-minute performance with songs and a familiar storyline.

Bushrangers - Campfire Club

Age: children aged 5-12 years

The greatest alternative to screen time!

Led by our experienced team of Bush Rangers, children will enjoy a day of wildlife, bushcraft, outdoor challenges, games and free play, all in the great outdoors of Centennial Parklands. Activities are designed to allow children to play outside and take part in problem-solving and cooperative challenges.

In the winter months, we will get to know the art of fire craft – learn how to light a fire from a spark without matches and make some delicious damper and yummy campfire treats!

This program is a firm holiday favourite and places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.

Aboriginal Dance

Age: children from 5 years old
Time: 2:00pm – 3:00pm
Event type: this a drop-off program. Parents do not attend with children.

Come and get to know the culture and customs of Australia’s First Nation through Dance in the beautiful surroundings of Centennial Parklands. This country has been used for sharing knowledge about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures for generations.

During this 1 hour workshop, kids will explore various First Nation dance styles as week as some traditional movements. They will learn how the dances are dependent on local environments and customs and how they teach responsibility and respect to each other.

Make your experience a whole-day adventure and visit our amazing Ian Potter Children’s Wild Play Garden before or after your program. Your kids can roam wildly around and test their climbing skills in the tree house and their speed on the slide – water play, tunnels, and bamboo mazes guarantee a great experience for them (and there is a coffee cart for you!)

As the days get colder, fire craft becomes the priority for survival. Learn how to survive the night through the art of campfire making, using only resources from the park around you!

Then take advantage of all your hard work by cosying up by the fire, making damper.

In case bush fire ratings are above low, we are not allowed to light fires and will change the content of the program to shelter building, outdoor challenges, and free play.

Bush Chef is Centennial Parklands newest extension to Kids Vs Wild. 

As the days get colder, fire craft becomes the priority for survival. Learn how to make to use your campfire to cook delicious campfire dishes!

The skills you learn in this workshop can be used for for future camping trips, picnics and 'bush birthday parties' to fill your tummies.

Children will get to make and cook their own damper, attempt at making popcorn over the fire and another dish if time allows.

 In case bush fire ratings are above low, we are not allowed to light fires and will change the content of the program to shelter building, outdoor challenges, and free play.

We will supervise your children during the lunch hour if you book in for Kids vs Wild - Campfire Club in the morning.

Taste of Bush School

Age: children aged 2.5 -5 years

Want to see what Bush School is about? Come to our special Nature Play session and check it out by joining our rangers for a morning of fun on our Nature Play site in Fearnley Grounds. 

Let your kids explore our little forest, test their balancing skills, listen to stories and just play in nature.

Our Bush School rangers have prepared a range of outdoor games and activities that leave no hands clean!

Learn more about Bush School and they theory behind nature play. Parents will also have the opportunity to receive training and advice on how to nurture and mentor their own nature child.

Bush School is an outdoor program and will take place in all-weather except for high winds and electrical storms. Participants (adults and children) are expected to dress for the outdoors, including bringing wet weather gear, a hat, sturdy enclosed shoes and waterproof footwear when required.

Older children with you during the school holidays? No problems, bring them along for a fun morning of games and exploration too! We have dedicated activities to keep them occupied during the Bush School session, so you can enjoy Bush School with your preschooler.

Spotlight Prowl For Families

Dusk is a wonderful time to spot animals in Centennial Parklands. The park is home to a variety of nocturnal creatures, from brushtail possums, microbats, and tawny frogmouths to one of Sydney’s largest colonies of grey-headed flying-foxes.

Join our experienced Rangers for a fascinating and surprising spotlight walk to see how the Park transforms when the sun goes down.
