Centennial Park’s first treehouse is coming!

Centennial Park will soon be home to Sydney’s first $4M children’s ‘WILD PLAY’ garden and within the new 6,000 square metre state-of-the-art facility will be the Parklands’ first ever treehouse tower, complete with a giant slide and rope bridges!

Conceptualised by Fleetwood Urban, the treehouse comprises of all natural elements and timbers and will be one of the main featured areas within the Ian Potter Children’s WILD PLAY Garden.

What is so special about the treehouse?

Surrounded by a lush bamboo forest, the treehouse will form part of an immersive and dense grove environment with narrow sandy trails, small clearings and canopy to explore. Enclosed rope bridges will take children up to the treehouse look out point, high above the forest, and a large slide will send them back down to the forest floor.
The nature-inspired setting offers numerous Educational outcomes for little ones, including:

  • Understanding of botanical diversity through hands on interaction;

  • Development of spatial awareness through elevated platforms and enclosed vertical planting;

  • Development of spatial skills through the negotiation of vertical structures.

What other features can you expect to see in the Garden?

Additionally the Children’s Garden will consist of dedicated natural spaces including creek beds, bamboo forests and outdoor classrooms, all designed to inspire and encourage children to engage in exciting, creative and imaginative outdoor ‘wild play’. An array of interactive features will include tunnels and hideouts formed by low shrubs and plants woven together.

The Ian Potter Children’s Wild Play Garden will provide an outdoor learning experience for children aged 2-12, of all abilities and backgrounds, enabling a ‘whole-of-life’ approach to education. Located adjacent to the existing Education Precinct off Dickens Drive in Centennial Park.

This $4 million project has received valuable funding support from The Ian Potter Foundation, whose incredible support of $1.5 million has enabled the project to progress from dream to reality.

The best bit… it will be ready to explore this summer!

Construction of the treehouse is now underway in the Garden and we just had to give you a sneak peak. Check out a few pictures of the construction process for the treehouse below!
