Take part in our Easter School Holiday Fun!

With the Easter School Holidays right around the corner, we have the perfect range of egg-citing School Holiday Programs that will have your kids learning and being creative in nature at Centennial Parklands.

Even in the middle of the city, there’s so much to explore at the Parklands. Our school holiday programs provide kids with unique and accessible outdoor learning experiences away from screens and in everyone’s favourite backyard.

With programs suitable for all needs, there’s something for everyone these Easter holidays at the Parklands. Check out our schedule below and prepare your kids for thrilling outdoor experiences and egg-cellent Easter events.

Week 1

ParkScience - Mad Mappers   


Age: children aged 5-12 years
Time: 10:00am – 12:00pm
Event type: this a drop-off program. Parents do not attend with children.  

Don’t follow the White Rabbit – we’re making sure that you don’t get lost like Alice!  

Learn how to use and make a map and how to find your way with and without a compass! Kids will enjoy the hands-on activities like mapping and orienteering whilst enjoying the beauty of Centennial Park in this fun-filled 2-hour program. If you book into our program The Obstacle Challenge in the afternoon, we will supervise your kids over lunch (BYO lunch). This a drop-off program for children aged5-12 years.

Obstacle Challenge  

Age: children aged 5-12 years 
Time: 1:00pm – 3:00pm
Event type: this a drop-off program. Parents do not attend with children.  

The Obstacle Challenge is an exciting outdoor activity for children to discover the importance of teamwork and mateship. 

 In a combined effort and with the help of Education Rangers, kids will have the time of their lives building an obstacle course for other teams to scout out and venture through. They will experience an alliance with their own teammates by running, jumping and problem-solving as they undergo the challenges of the other obstacle courses constructed too.  

Once they soldier through and make it out as a team, the kids will relax and reminisce about what they achieved together. To finish off the day, they will have the chance to hand-make a souvenir to take home and remind them of their new mates!

Taste of Bush School


Age: children aged 5-12 years
Time: 9:30 – 11:30am
Event Type: children must be accompanied by an adult

Want to see what Bush School is about? Come to our special Nature Play session and check it out by joining our Education Rangers for a morning of fun at our Nature Play site in Fearnley Grounds. 
 
Let your kids explore our little forest, test their balancing skills, listen to stories and just play in nature. 
 
Our Bush School rangers have prepared a range of outdoor games and activities that leave no hands clean! 
 
Learn more about Bush School have the opportunity to receive training and advice on how to nurture and mentor their own nature child. Bush School is an outdoor program and will take place in all-weather except for high winds and electrical storms.

Spinning a Yarn - Aboriginal Weaving Class


Age: children aged 5-12 years
Time: 9:30– 11:30am

The art of weaving has been an integral part of Aboriginal culture for thousands of years. The knowledge and skills have been handed down through the generations, and now you can learn it too. During the autumn school holidays, join Shared Knowledge’s expert weavers and learn how to weave with resources right here in the Centennial Parklands. You’ll also hear all about the historic use of native plants and how local Aboriginal peoples identify and utilise them.

The Big Bat Night


Age: children aged 5-12 years
Time: 4:00pm– 6:00pm
Event type: children must be accompanied by an adult 

Bats are cool - join us for two hours around those interesting nocturnal animals. Experts will share their knowledge and will show you how they look after injured and orphaned bats. They will share their stories of what it's like to be a wildlife carer.

Bring your picnic blanket and we will watch the flyout of Sydney's largest colony during sunset and start from there on a Spotlight Prowl through Centennial Park to find more of Australia’s fascinating nocturnal wildlife and of course we have some bat-tastic fun activities for the smaller bat-fans.

Special notes: This program is a popular family program so please book early to avoid disappointment. Bring a torch and dress warmly.

Alice in WonderPark




Age: children from 4 years old
Time: 10:30am – 11.20am 
Event Type: children must be accompanied by an adult

Come and join Alice as she discovers some of the strange and wonderful characters from the Wonderland story. Find out why the Hatter is mad and where the White Rabbit is really heading. 
 
In this twist on Alice in Wonderland, the audience helps Alice paint the roses red so she can find her way home. The audience also participate in The Mad Hatters Tea Party, talk to the White Rabbit and play croquet with The Queen of Hearts. 
 
This is a highly interactive 50-minute performance by the Eaton Gorge Theatre Company with songs and a familiar story line.

Bushrangers - Super Shelters

Age: children aged 5-12 years
Time: 9:00 – 4:00pm
Event Type: this a drop-off program. Parents do not attend with children. 

The greatest alternative to screen time! 
 
Led by our experienced team of Bush Rangers, children will enjoy a day of wildlife, bushcraft, outdoor challenges, games and free play, all in the great outdoors of Centennial Parklands. Activities are designed to allow children to play outside and to take part in problem solving and cooperative challenges. This program is a firm holiday favourite and places are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment!
 
This program will focus on the theme 'shelter' and will involve learning how to make a shelter from large sticks, bark and other natural materials. We'll test to see if your shelter keeps you dry during the water test and take a walk around the park to see how other animals make their shelters.

Kids vs Wild – Super Shelters


Age: children aged 5-12 years
Time: 10:00am – 12:00pm 
Event Type: this a drop-off program. Parents do not attend with children.

Shelter Building is one of the most important survival skills!
 
In this 2-hour program, learn from our experienced Education Rangers how to build a natural shelter from sticks, bark, leaves and mud. We'll also have a walk around the park to see if we can spot some animal shelters.
 
Take part in this short outdoor adventure at the Parklands or join our full-day program, ‘Bushrangers - Super Shelters’.
 
*We will supervise your children over the lunch hour if you book in for Easter Bunny’s Workshop in the afternoon. If you are staying for the whole day, please BYO Lunch.

Easter Bunny's Workshop - Easter Fun and Art

Hop, hop, hop, have you seen the Easter Bunny already? If not… did you know that Bunny has set up a workshop right here in Centennial Park? 
 
Join our creative Education Rangers for 2 hours of creative Easter art-making full of seeds, flowers, leaves, and blossoms. Create three beautiful pieces of nature art to put in your Easter baskets for your parents or grandparents.
 
And of course, they will be time for stories and fun outdoor games!

Egg-cellent Easter


Age: children aged 5-12 years
Time: 9:00am, 10.15am, 11.30am, 2.15pm, 3.30pm (1-hour sessions)
Event Type: children must be accompanied by an adult

This highly anticipated annual Easter event will bring Sydney children on the Easter Bilby’s journey through the stunning Centennial Parklands. 
 
Together with their parents, children are introduced to the story of the Easter Bilby and their very special promotion to Australia's Easter mascot! They can engage in nature-based games and art projects celebrating Australia’s native plants and animals, follow trail maps, overcome challenges and connect with the natural world and their community! 
 
This egg-cellent adventure is all about families celebrating Easter magic in the beautiful outdoors. 
 
This is a 1-hour program led by one of our Education Rangers and as a special Easter present, they’ll be handing out chocolates and a delicious chocolate bilby for all participating kids at the end of the session
 
Tickets include: 
- Participation for 1 child and one carer 
- Make your own Easter Bilby ears 
- Help create an Easter egg gallery 
- Make your very own seed eggs 
- Traditional Easter games

Nature & Art - Eco Art for Kids Autumn

Let your children join us for two hours outdoors in the park to make beautiful things from natural materials. 

 If your kids love plants and animals and want to explore their creative side, then this art workshop is for them! We will play some nature-based art games, working with a range of art mediums and natural materials to make a series of works to either leave in-situ (on site) or take home.

Dreamtime Drawing


Age: children aged 5-12 years 
Time: 9:30am-10:30am

Join our Aboriginal educators for an hour of Dreamtime Drawing. 
 
Against the backdrop of the stunning Centennial Parklands, your kids will discover First Nations' art and culture through hands-on painting and storytelling. Kids will learn contemporary Aboriginal art techniques and gain an understanding of Aboriginal culture through the stories told by our Aboriginal educators from Shared Knowledge. 
 
You can visit the Ian Potter Children’s WILD PLAY Garden before or after the program for even more free play.

Find out about the origins of our star signs, the furthest and closest planets, and how to find south once the sun has set. You’ll learn how to navigate using the stars, be captivated by stories of the cosmos, and look through a telescope to see things that aren’t visible to the naked eye.
