Spring School Holidays

Spring has finally sprung, which means now is the perfect time to get the kids back outside and into nature at Centennial Parklands! Our education experts have developed a diverse range of educational and nature play school holiday programs for children aged up to 12 years.

Led by our skilled and knowledgeable Education Rangers, children will be able to explore and discover the marvellous natural environment in the heart of Centennial Park and enjoy unique and accessible outdoor learning experiences.

There's something to capture the imagination and creativity of every child, from spring activities through learning about insects with Park Science to outdoor theatre fun with The Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. Check out our schedule below and prepare your kids for thrilling outdoor adventures these spring school holidays.

All our programs are full-day drop-off programs (parents do not attend) except for Spotlight Prowl for Families (evening event) and The Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie. Parents can drop kids off between 8 am - 9 am and pick them up between 3 pm - 4 pm.

Embark on a buzzing adventure this school holiday!

Join our outdoor holiday program to explore the captivating world of insects. Investigate why some are brightly coloured, while others blend in.

  • Learn how bees see, and marvel at invertebrate wonders. Hunt for bugs and explore the difference between centipedes, millipedes, and worms.

  • Engage in role-playing games and create insect-inspired art.

  • Discover the vital role insects play in our ecosystem during a nature walk.

  • Build a bug hotel to attract insects to your garden.

Spring brings the perfect opportunity to nurture curiosity and knowledge about these incredible creatures. Join us for a day of excitement, exploration, and become an insect expert!

  • Eye-opening nature walk focusing on the role of insects in the environment

  • Bug hunt or dip net session

  • Nature games and art activities

May Gibbs' quintessentially Australian classics have fascinated and delighted generations of children and families, introducing them to the wonder and magic of the Australian bush.

In this new outdoor adaptation, the iconic Tales of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie come to life for contemporary audiences.

The Gumnut Babies are on a mission to see a human – but only from a distance! On their journey to the big city, they meet friends and foes including Mrs Kookaburra, Mrs Fantail, Mr Lizard, Mr Frog, Mrs Snake, and, of course, Little Ragged Blossom.

Can Snugglepot lead the way? Can Cuddlepie hold his nerve? Can they avoid falling victim to the Big Bad Banksia Man?

These beloved characters come to life in Centennial Parklands in an outdoor production of this funny and enchanting performance that introduces today's children to the wonderful world of May Gibbs.

Dusk is a wonderful time to spot animals in Centennial Parklands. The Park is home to a variety of nocturnal creatures, from brushtail possums, microbats, and tawny frogmouths to one of Sydney's largest colonies of grey-headed flying-foxes.

Join our experienced Rangers for a fascinating and surprising spotlight walk to see how the Park transforms when the sun goes down.

Meeting point: Robertson Road Gates Time: 4.30 pm - 8:30 pm

What to bring:

  • Enclosed & comfortable shoes

  • Warm clothing - it gets cold after dark!

  • Torch

  • Camera (no flash)

  • Waterproof clothing in case of wet conditions, the walks run rain or shine

  • A sense of adventure
