New lease of life for Hordern Pavilion and Royal Hall of Industries

The future of Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion and Royal Hall of Industries has been secured for live music and community access. The Hordern Pavilion will receive significant upgrades to protect and enhance its role as a premier live music and entertainment venue.

The major renovation will improve the Hordern experience for concert-goers and performers, while offering more flexibility for a wider variety of events and performance options. The Royal Hall of Industries will become a multi-use community and function space, including:

Breathing new life into Moore Park

In addition to a public café and museum, the new space will house an international standard netball court and a multi-purpose recreation and function space that will be accessible to the community 200 nights a year.

Both buildings will remain available for events such as the annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, which has been an important part of the precinct since the 1980s.

The project strongly aligns with the Moore Park Master Plan 2040 by encouraging increased community use of both buildings and the wider Moore Park precinct. The new outdoor entertainment space between the buildings will be connected to Sydney’s light rail to create a new gateway to the Entertainment Quarter.

Meanwhile the new Australian Red Cross blood donor centre will service Sydney’s eastern and southern suburbs, helping facilitate more life-saving donations.

Following a competitive tender process, the PlayOn Group, a partnership between PlayBill Venue Management and the Sydney Swans, were successful in securing the 27-year lease with the Centennial Park & Moore Park Trust for both venues.

Renovations are expected to get underway on the precinct by the middle of next year subject to design, planning and development approvals.
