The future of Moore Park South

The early engagement period has now closed. Thank you to everyone who had their say on the future of Moore Park South. The NSW Government has considered all feedback received on the Moore Park South Discussion Paper (25 February to 10 April 2024) and prepared a ‘What we heard’ report, released in December 2024.

In October 2023, the NSW Government announced it is transforming 20 hectares of Moore Park South into green open space for community recreation in one of the densest parts of the city. This decision responds to the needs of the growing communities surrounding Moore Park.

About early engagement

The NSW Government asked Greater Sydney Parklands to consult with the community and stakeholders about the ideas and considerations outlined in the Discussion Paper.

The Discussion Paper outlined the decision to transform an area on the western side of Moore Park Golf course on the north of Dacey Avenue to public open space, while retaining a minimum 9-hole golf course, driving range and clubhouse.

Greater Sydney Parklands invited the community and stakeholders to share their vision for a future park at Moore Park South including how they would like to use the new park and how the existing golf offering at Moore Park could be reimagined.

Extensive consultation was held with park users, sporting groups, surrounding communities, councils, and government agencies from 25 February to 10 April 2024.

Feedback was invited via:

  • 8 community pop-up sessions across a variety of locations surrounding Moore Park
  • 5 stakeholder workshops
  • 6 briefings that included local councils
  • online surveys (8, 615 completed)
  • submissions (315 received)

What we heard report

A ‘What we heard’ report collating and analysing community and stakeholder feedback was released in December 2024. The report is structured around the responses to the questions posed in the Discussion Paper and summarises the diverse feedback received across the extensive engagement program.

All submissions received have been made publicly available, with personally identifiable information withheld as requested.
Thank you to everyone who had their say on the future of Moore Park South. The feedback received will help shape the future of the new public park and the future of golf at Moore Park.

Next steps

The NSW Budget 2024-25 committed $2.6 million for preliminary design and planning works to transform part of Moore Park Golf Course into the new public park.

There will be further engagement on the design of the new park and golf offer with the community and stakeholders in 2025. This will include working with Transport for NSW and councils on access and movement considerations.

The golf course reconfiguration is proposed to take place after the expiration of the current operating agreement which expires in mid-2026.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
The NSW Government has announced its decision to transform 20-hectares on the western side of Moore Park Golf course, north of Dacey Avenue to a new public park while retaining the 9-hole golf course, driving range and clubhouse.

Currently there are almost 690,000 people within a 5km radius of Centennial Parklands, with the population projected to rise to almost 790,000 in 2041. This makes it one of the densest residential communities in Australia, with the majority of these people living in apartments, townhouses or terraces.

The new park will increase public access to green space which is important to improving the quality of life of nearby residents. As our cities and communities grow, we need to deliver open spaces to support greater density in the right places.

The NSW Government is committed to well-built, well-designed, and well-located homes close to public spaces for families to enjoy the outdoor environment. To support this density, the Government is acting on a need to deliver more public open space for inner-city residents with the current operating licence of Moore Park Golf course set to expire in 2026.
There will be further engagement on the design of the new park and golf offer with the community and stakeholders in 2025. Consultation will be conducted in line with Greater Sydney Parklands’ Consultation and Engagement Framework.
Consultation was conducted with park users, sporting groups, residents, community groups, councils and government agencies from 25 February to 10 April 2024 and included:
  • 8 pop-ups across a variety of locations surrounding Moore Park
  • 5 workshops
  • 6 briefings that included local councils
  • 8 615 completed surveys
