The future of Moore Park South

The NSW Government is transforming 20 hectares of Moore Park Golf Course into a new public park for Sydney, close to one of the most densely populated parts of the city. The new park will support the needs of the growing communities surrounding Moore Park while retaining a minimum 9-hole public golf course.

In 2024, Greater Sydney Parklands consulted with park users, community and sporting groups, surrounding communities, councils and government agencies on their vision for the park. Read the ‘What we heard’ report.

In response, we have developed a draft Moore Park South Establishment Plan for community and stakeholder feedback. The plan will deliver high-quality green space for community recreation alongside a minimum 9-hole golf course, expanded driving range, 18-hole short form (mini) golf course.

The NSW Government has committed $50 million to establish the 20-hectare park and reconfigured golf course at Moore Park South over the next 3 years, after the current operating agreement expires in mid-2026.

We invite you to have your say on the draft Moore Park South Establishment Plan on public exhibition until 11:59pm Monday 24 November 2025. Your feedback will help inform our planning and shape the future of Moore Park South.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Currently there are almost 690,000 people within a 5-kilometre radius of Centennial Parklands, with the population projected to rise to almost 790,000 in 2041. This makes it one of the densest residential communities in Australia, with most residents living in apartments, townhouses or terraces.

The new park will increase public access to green space which is important to improving the quality of life of nearby residents. As our cities and communities grow, we need to deliver open spaces to support greater density in the right places.

The NSW Government is committed to well-built, well-designed, and well-located homes close to public spaces for families to enjoy the outdoor environment. To support this density, the Government is acting on a need to deliver more public open space for inner-city residents with the current operating licence of Moore Park Golf course set to expire in mid-2026.

Your feedback will inform the final establishment plan. There may be further consultation on elements of the plan over the coming years. Consultation will be conducted in line with Greater Sydney Parklands’ Consultation and Engagement Framework.
