ParkArts - Printmaking in the Park with Robert Ives

In this class, you will make a drypoint etching using the diversity of summer leaves from Centennial Park for your design inspiration. Robert will demonstrate how to trace and scribe a leaf design onto a clear plastic plate, and then how to ink up the plate and print your leaf design using the etching press. There will be an opportunity to hand colour your print. All materials will be supplied.

Book early to avoid disappointment. Maximum class size ten students.

Please note: This event is strictly 18 years and older

What to expect and what to bring

Please try to arrive 10-15 minutes before the class starts. Robert will start promptly at 10am.

Printmaking teacher Robert Ives will provide a brief history of intaglio drypoint etching and show examples.

Robert will demonstrate the drypoint technique including:

  • How to trace and scribe a summer leaf design onto a clear plastic plate
  • How to ink up the plate and print your leaf design using the etching press

A large collection of summer leaves from Centennial Park will be on hand to choose your subject matter. There will be an opportunity to hand colour your print.

All print materials to be supplied including: oil based ink, water colour paints, plastic print plate, paper, disposable gloves and tools.

What to bring

Please bring an apron or old shirt to protect your clothes from the oil based ink.
