Share The Park

Moving together we can all enjoy the park

Whether you're taking in the scenery, out for a jog, or exploring with your dog, we all play a part in creating a safe, accessible and welcoming environment for everyone. By doing the right thing, we all help to keep Centennial Park a place for everyone to share and enjoy.

Other ways to show your respect for the parklands

Cyclists

Cycling is a fantastic activity for exercise, fun and exploring the outdoors. To make sure everyone has a great time on their bikes, we ask that cyclists follow our easy rules below:

  • Stick to designated cycle paths - off-road cycling and cycling on grass or environmentally sensitive areas is not permitted due to the erosion and pedestrian safety issues
  • Cyclists must observe the 30 km/h speed limit throughout the parklands
  • Cyclists must give way to pedestrians and horses and observe stop signs
  • Cyclists must not ride contra-flow when on a one-way road
  • Cyclists must not ride in packs of more than 16 riders, or ride more than 2 across
  • Bicycle racing is not permitted, unless specifically approved by the Trust as part of an event
  • Riding a bicycle on a footpath is not permitted unless the cyclist is under 12 years of age
  • Adult cyclists and rollerbladers are not allowed on the Learner’s Cycleway
  • All cyclists must wear a safety-approved helmet at all times.
Dog owners
  • Dogs are not allowed on the horse or cycle tracks, roads, equestrian grounds, in ponds or wildlife protection areas, or on sporting fields when in use
  • Dogs must be kept 10 metres away from barbecues, children’s playgrounds and the Learner's Cycleway
  • Dogs must not be led by cyclists, rollerbladers, horse riders or from vehicles
  • Dog owners must clean up their dog’s droppings and dispose of them in proper bins
  • A single person can lead a maximum of four dogs at a time
  • Greyhounds must be muzzled
  • Restricted breeds such as pit bull terriers and Argentinian fighting dogs must be on a leash, muzzled and under the control of a person over 18 years at all times
  • Know where off-leash areas are. Refer to the parklands dog brochure for more information.
Horse riders
  • Take care when crossing all roads, especially entering and exiting Centennial Park at Robertson Road Gates
  • Riders on the Centennial Park horse track must slow to a walk when passing other horses
  • Equestrian riders must also abide by the Code of Conduct.
Motorists
  • Slow down - the speed limit is 30 km/h in Centennial Park for all vehicles
  • Stay in the car lane and look out for other park users
  • Check your blind spot for cyclists before turning across the cycle lane.
Pedestrians & joggers
The Grand Drive Course is one of four courses in the parklands. It sits on the inside of Centennial Park’s 3.5 kilometre main road, Grand Drive and provides a continuous loop around Centennial Park. The Queens Park Course runs around the perimeter of the Queens Park Fields. The Queens Park Fields are easily accessed via public transport from Avoca Street, Queens Park Road and Carrington Road. If you’re driving, there is on-street parking available.
  • Look both ways for bikes and cars before crossing the road and always use pedestrian crossings when they are provided
  • If you walk or jog with headphones in your ears, take care before stepping out onto any roadway
  • Respect the horse tracks and entrance ways, especially at Robertson Road Gate.
