Picnics and BBQs

Centennial Parklands has been a meeting place for many generations of Sydneysiders and visitors alike. To come to the Parklands and enjoy a picnic with family and friends is definitely one of life's pleasures!

While everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a picnic in Centennial Parklands, we need your help. Together we can maintain a sustainable and beautiful space for the whole community to enjoy and a safe environment for our wildlife. To guide you when picnicking in the Parklands, there are a few simple regulations which can be found here: Rules and Regulations.

Bookable picnic sites

Centennial Park has 11 picnic sites, including a sheltered picnic site at Fearnley Grounds adjacent to the Learners Cycleway, that can be exclusively booked by private, school or corporate groups. Groups of all sizes (to a maximum of 300 people) are welcome to make a picnic booking.

Our beautiful picnic sites are located near amenities, have lovely outlooks and are environmentally suitable for regular use. Booking a picnic site will ensure you get exclusive use of a great picnic spot and you won’t have to arrive early to save a space!

Visitors are welcome to enjoy a picnic anywhere in the Park without making a booking. However, if you would like to reserve a specific area you will need to make a booking. Our bookable picnic sites allow visitors to reserve an area for recreation and are intended for social gatherings that do not interfere with other Park users. These areas are not designed to host small events with substantial infrastructure.

Events for more than 300 people

Please visit the Venue Hire section of our website or contact the Parklands Office on (02) 9339 6699 for more information.

How to book a Picnic Site in Centennial Park

There are three simple steps involved in booking a picnic site in Centennial Park.

Step 1. Choose your picnic site

Our 11 picnic sites have different features, capacities and prices, with two 'tiers' of site available (Tier 1 and Tier 2).

Tier 1 sites are generally in areas that suit smaller groups. Tier 2 sites are generally able to sustain larger numbers, and robust enough to enable you to bring more equipment and infrastructure.

Step 2. Book your picnic site

Once you have chosen your preferred site, complete and submit the Application Form. You should read the Terms and Conditions of booking prior to completing the Application Form.

Step 3. Confirmation

Your booking will be confirmed once availability of your preferred site and date is communicated by Centennial Parklands and payment has been received. You will receive a booking confirmation email at this time.

Waste disposal - leave no trace

Picnics can generate significant amounts of rubbish and whilst general and recycling waste bins are provided throughout the Parklands, we ask that you please take your rubbish with you when you leave.

This not only reduces the potential danger waste poses to Parklands wildlife, it enables us to keep waste disposal costs to a minimum and instead invest precious funds into tree conservation and planting and other essential maintenance of heritage features, amenities and other Parklands facilities.
