The submission of this form is a formal request for an excursion booking at Centennial Parklands on the date/s and time/s specified. Once we receive your form we will allocate your booking based off of our availability and will respond with a booking confirmation document.

Students investigate the natural environments of Centennial Parklands through hands-on, sensory and inquiry-based outdoor learning.

Early Stage 1 Science

Students investigate the natural environments of Centennial Parklands through hands-on, sensory and inquiry-based outdoor learning.
Through guided exploration, students observe living things, notice environmental features, and practice science skills such as questioning, noticing, comparing and using simple tools.

Learning intention

Students will:

  • explore the park environment using their senses
  • ask questions and make observations about what they notice in nature
  • identify living things and describe simple features
  • use simple science tools to collect information.

Activities

  • Sensory games: Sound hunts, texture discovery and smell investigations.

  • Nature walk: Exploring habitats, noticing features and comparing environments.

  • Bug hunt: Using magnifying glasses, binoculars and simple charts to identify insects and birds and describing their characteristics.

Curriculum links and syllabus outcomes

  • STE-SCI-01 identifies and describes characteristics of living things, properties of materials and movement

  • STE-PQU-01 poses questions based on observations to collect data
