As part of the NSW Government’s COVIDSafe Transport Plan, Transport for NSW is supporting people returning to jobs in the Sydney CBD through the establishment of a pop-up ‘parking hub’ in Moore Park, opened on Monday 25 May 2020, where commuters can continue their trip into the city on foot, by bike or public transport.
The temporary pop-up car park is operating from Showground Field on the southern end of Driver Ave, adjacent to the Moore Park Light Rail stop, the Moore Park Bus loop, and the pedestrian Albert Tibby Cotter Bridge across Anzac Parade. Entry is off Driver Ave, entering from Lang Road or Moore Park Road.
The car park is free for commuters and open from 6.00 am until 10.00 pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays). The car park can accommodate up to 980 vehicles.
The timeframe of this car park operation will continue to be reviewed by Transport for NSW in conjunction with Centennial Parklands as necessary.
The Moore Park Masterplan will see the progressive removal of on-grass parking at Moore Park and as part of that plan no temporary parking will occur near the Kippax Lake area of Moore Park, at the northern end of the Park. Since event parking ceased in the Kippax Lake area, it has proved to be an extremely important green public space for people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Weekday events at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG): please note that when there are events held at the SCG on weekdays and weeknights, the Showground Field car park will be closed to commuters a few hours prior to the SCG gate open times and will be used as a paid event carpark for attendees. Flat-rate event parking fees will apply from such time, see upcoming events for SCG event dates or below closure listing.Wet weather contingency: the Showground Field car park may temporarily close during periods of heavy rain as the grasslands can become very muddy and unsafe for vehicles. Motorists will be redirected to park along the asphalted driveway of the car park and along Driver Ave during such time. Please be advised that capacity will be limited under these temporary parking conditions so commuters should arrive early to secure a free parking space.
