Tree works: Centennial Homestead (12 April 2019)

Published on 3 Apr 2019

Following an advanced assessment, a Melaleuca quinquenervia, Broad-leaved paperbark that has been monitored due to an active split in the main trunk is scheduled to be removed on 12 April 2019. The tree is located on Parade Grounds near the entrance of Centennial Homestead.

This species of tree is prone to bark inclusions due to its multi stemmed growth habit, however only some are defective and eventually lead to failure like the tree scheduled for removal.

Works information

Due to the location and proximity of the tree, visitors to Parade Grounds should be aware that there will be some noise associated with these works from 6.30 am to 8.00 am.

Pedestrians and horse riders will have access around the worksite but the immediate surroundings of the tree will be blocked off for public safety.

Further information

We work to keep our 15,000 trees healthy and beautiful by maintaining our trees, planting new trees and only removing trees when required or necessary.

We receive many questions about trees that are felled or removed despite ‘appearing healthy’ on the outside. But what many people do not know is that trees, like humans, are susceptible to a large and diverse range of health issues and structural defects.

Eventually a tree may need to be removed once other tree management strategies become insufficient for public safety or sustaining the health of a tree.

To find out more about how we manage our trees please read our Tree Master Plan here and read our blog on the life cycle of a tree here.
