Picnics in the Parklands
One of the favourite activities of visitors to Centennial Parklands is to meet with family and friends for a picnic.
There are many appropriate spaces available for picnics, however in order to ensure your picnic does not detrimentally impact upon the Parklands or other park visitors, we request all picnickers to follow the following advice:
- picnic spaces cannot be booked or reserved ahead of time.
- do not peg any shade structures into the ground (you may unknowingly damage underground irrigation lines and other infrastructure) - use weighted shade shelters only, or pick a picnic site beneath shady trees.
- groups of 50 or more people are required to register with the Parklands Office. Registration will ensure your group is noted on our Rangers Daily Log, allows the Rangers to take a contact number in case of emergency, lost children or lost items, and allows Rangers to notify you of any events, unfavourable weather conditions or works planned in the area ahead of time. A small adminstration fee may apply to bookings of over 100 people, see Fees and Charges.
Waste - leave no trace
Centennial Parklands is committed to the principles of Leave No Trace - a philosophy that is dedicated to promoting and inspiring responsible outdoor travel and recreation, with an overriding respect for the environment.
Help us by disposing of your waste in the marked and available Parklands bins, or taking your waste home with you. Waste left behind becomes:
- a danger to birds and other wildlife in the Parklands; and
- a cost burden to the Parklands, diverting money away from more important activities, such as maintenance of amenities and facilities, tree planting and heritage maintenance.
