Moore Park Traffic and Parking Rugby Super 12s
On Friday 25 February 2005, the Rugby Super 12s will be held at the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust’s venue, Aussie Stadium.
With crowds of 30,000 expected, delays of up to one and a half hours will not be unusual as the majority of cars seek to access the Eastern Distributor and Harbour Tunnel via Moore Park Road after the game.
This is a vibrant historic Precinct in the most highly urbanised area in Australia. Therefore it has a very busy road system which already accommodates heavy general traffic.
While public transport is actively encouraged and promoted, many supporters choose to drive to the Moore Park Precinct. As with any large scale events, this can lead to increased use of the roadway system in and around the Precinct. Therefore, patrons who choose to drive are encouraged to car pool.
The nature of the road system surrounding the event area means that although traffic movement within the car park may be smoothly regulated, the volume of commuting traffic on the surrounding RTA arterial road system can lead to delays.
The opening of the Harbour Tunnel and Eastern Distributor link through to the Moore Park Precinct has seen this route being heavily favoured by motorists which exacerbates the traffic congestion on Moore Park Road and surrounding arterial roads.
All agencies including the RTA, STA, Police and Precinct venues communicate closely and work to a Major Event plan that is adapted for individual events. Each event is planned in detail with contingencies in place.
Visitors are strongly encouraged to use public transport to make their journey easier and more relaxed. Buses from Central to Moore Park take just 10 minutes and run frequently. For more information, call 131 500 or visit www.131500.com.au.
Visitors can also take the opportunity of extending their stay in the lively Family Entertainment Precinct and avoid post-match traffic. There are a number of great cafes and restaurants open until late.
