Community urged to get involved in Moore Park planning
An appeal has been made for the local community to become involved in the new Master Plan for Moore Park, which is currently being developed for the Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust.
The Master Plan is the first major initiative in more than a decade to ensure the sustainability of Moore Park as a vibrant, accessible and sustainable open space in inner Sydney.
Trust Director and Chief Executive Steve Corbett today announced a comprehensive consultation program to seek and obtain the widest possible cross section of views.
“The Trust values the input of all stakeholders and we are keen to hear their vision for the future of the dynamic public space.”
Master planning consultants and Trust staff are meeting with a large number of groups to get their input on a range of issues including:
• increasing recreational opportunities for the Park outside of major events
• finding a balance between parking, public transport, pedestrians and cyclists
• improving access for surrounding residents and other park users; and
• strengthening the Park’s identity and character without compromising its important cultural heritage landscape.
“The Plan will seek to reconcile the interests of a diverse range of users. It is our objective to provide a blueprint for Moore Park that is both sustainable and respectful of its 19th century heritage.”
Consultation initiatives will include a Public Information Session on Saturday June 4 at Sydney Girls’ High School auditorium between 12 noon and 4 pm. Initial graphic presentations developed by the master planning consultants will be on display and Trust representatives will be available to talk with interested individuals.
“I really urge all people with an interest in Moore Park to make an effort to attend the information session on June 4. If they can’t attend, the Trust would still like to hear from them. People can either email the Trust at mpmp@cp.nsw.gov.au or write to us with their views and ideas,” Mr. Corbett said.
“All suggestions received will be passed to the Master Planning consultants for consideration.”
The Draft Moore Park Master Plan is scheduled to be put on public exhibition in late August. The public will be invited to view the Draft and make a formal submission for consideration prior to adoption of the final Master Plan.
“This is a wonderful area – often described as the lungs of Sydney. How we use and care for Moore Park is critical to its future. Now is the time to get involved,” Mr Corbett said.
