The Trust, in consultation with the Minister for Sport and Recreation, the Hon. Graham West MP, has announced the cancellation of Car Free Day this Sunday 24 February 2008.
This decision is in response to the unusual traffic and pedestrian issues that may arise as a result of the events scheduled for Moore Park - notably the One Day Cricket match at the SCG, the A-League Grand Final at the SFS and an event at the Hordern Pavilion, as well as the other events in the city.
With over 80,000 patrons expected to attend the two stadium events, the Trust is working closely with its Moore Park precinct partners and public transport authorities to minimise the impacts of the day on the surrounds.
Opening Centennial Park will potentially relocate up to 1,800 park user vehicles from surrounding streets that would have been utilising on-street parking as a result of Car Free Day, back into the Park.
For information on transport to and from the Moore Park precinct during this busy period, please visit the Public Transport website: www.131500.info or phone 131 500.
