Capital Works Projects
Centennial Parklands is a significant cultural and natural landscape in the heart of the Sydney metropolitan area. Estimates are that approximately six million visits are made to open space, while a further five million visit the entertainment precinct.
Given the significance and growing popularity of Centennial Parklands, the Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust (Trust) is faced with many competing and changing demands for the Parklands use and enjoyment. Significant changes have occurred in the urban context of the Parklands in recent years. These changes include major urban consolidation on the boundaries and increased visitation/usage.
To cope with these pressures, the Trust developed a Plan of Management 2006-2016 to provide a medium-to-long term management framework for the Parklands.
Parklands Improvement Projects
The Trust undertakes a wide range of Parklands improvement projects every year to improve the Parklands facilities, environment, infrastructure, general presentation and management practices.
These projects are funded in a number of ways, including:
- the Trust's operating budget;
- co-funding arrangements with NSW Treasury; and
- funding and grants sourced through the Centennial Parklands Foundation.
The first major co-funding arrangement between the Trust and NSW Treasury delivered around $50 million of Parklands improvement projects. In 2009 the Trust was recognised in the NSW Premier's Awards for this Plan (read article).
In 2009 the Trust and NSW Treasury announced a further co-funding arrangement for the Capital Investment Program 2010-2019 (CIP). An initial $17 million has been allocated to build on the achievements of the PIP 2002-2009.
