1. What is your educational training and career background?

I studied teaching in Germany and am a high school teacher for history, English, and Italian. I have taught in high schools in Germany and in a German School in Cairo, Egypt.

2. Please share with us your experience of working in Egypt in a Nature Play type program?

Part of our offer in Egypt was the “Desert Kindergarten”.
It was amazing to see how quickly those city children adapted to the new surroundings. We ran many activities with them including shelter building which involved tents and caves), tracking, fire making. Sometime it was hard to tell who had more fun the kids or the teachers.

3. Funniest/ weirdest/ or special moment working in Egypt with children?

Once a year, I took my classes onto a trip to the Christian quarter of Cairo. We dedicated one half of the program to churches and the Christian belief and the other half to mosques and the Islam belief. The kids were very interested in the two religions and quickly found the differences and similarities. The interaction between them became much more understanding and open from that excursion on.

4. What do you hope people get out of their visit to Centennial Park with the Education team?

Being able to access such a beautiful nature space in the middle of a big city is an outstanding opportunity. I hope that everyone who takes part in our education and community program learns to love and appreciate nature and the outdoors – it will make your future happier and healthier.
