The Discovery Centre

The Discovery Centre is a multi-purpose facility available for hire.

The facility is an indoor space that holds up to 60 people and is available for use for in-house educational programs as well as school holiday children’s programs. Although most of our teaching and learning happens outside, the Centre provides a wet-weather contingency space and a place for groups to collate their fieldwork data. It is also available for other user groups, including volunteer groups, community groups, sports hirers, corporate events and birthday parties before and after school hours as well as on weekends.

The Discovery Centre can comfortably hold:

  • up to 40 adults/children seated
  • up to 70 adults/children standing

In addition, the external decking to the Centre can hold a further 30 to 40 people.

The Centre is a recycled demountable that is fully-powered with in-built amenities and basic catering facilities. The main features of the building include:

  • an interactive whiteboard
  • one large carpeted space
  • a small kitchenette containing a fridge/freezer and sink
  • accessible toilet
  • five moveable tables
  • 60 plastic chairs
  • 10 aluminium bench seats
  • a large veranda area, one side of which is covered
  • wooden pigeon holes for students to leave their bags
  • full disabled access
  • rainwater collection tank for garden watering
  • an outdoor kitchen with fridge, sink and microwave

All roof structures are connected to water tanks. The deck is constructed using a recycled wood-plastic composite. Each lineal metre has approximately 37 recycled plastic milk bottles!

Operating hours

  • The Discovery Centre is available for use from 8.00 am until 10.00 pm seven days a week
  • During weekdays, priority will be given to school groups.

The Discovery Centre is available to hire at hourly rate of $135 per hour (minimum 2 hour hire). There is also a bond of $300 payable at time of booking.
