The Trust has granted permission for The Sydney Fly Rodders Association to fish for and remove Carp from the ponds within Centennial Parklands. This will be initially on a three-month trial basis.

The times and days of the activity will be:

Date: Thursday 28 August 2008 (and the last Thursday of each month throughout spring).
Times: 3.30 pm to 9.30 pm (with the fishing to commence at dusk).
Location: Fly Casting Pond on Dickens Drive, Centennial Park (see map)

Prior to dusk the members will 'burley' (adding bread to the water) to encourage the carp to hang around the edge of the pond for easy fishing.

A small marquee will be installed adjacent to the pond for registration and drink breaks.

Fly Casting Pond

Fly Casting Pond is fed from the water flowing through from Model Yacht Pond. Extensive reed beds have been planted on the eastern side of this pond to provide habitat for aquatic fauna and to further absorb further dissolved nutrients from the system.

These reed beds also help to trap sediments by slowing the flow of water as it moves from Fly Casting Pond into the larger Willow Pond.

During the summer you may be lucky enough to spot a turtle in this pond!

The pond takes its name from the fly cast fishing competitions and activities that were first held in Centennial Park in the first decade of the 1900s.

After a long absence of fly cast fishing throughout the latter half of last century, the Trust is pleased to welcome such activity in the Park and supports the recreational and educational opportunities provided through this activity.
