A fishy find in Lily Pond
15 February 2008
A new species of native fish not seen before in Centennial Parklands has been identified in Lily Pond.
The Cox’s Gudgeon (Gobiomorphus coxii) was recently found during a survey to assess the population of the introduced Gambusia species in Lily Pond.
Though only 150mm long, the Cox’s Gudgeon is the largest native fish naturally present and able to breed in Centennial Parklands’ pond system.
As yet, this species has not been identified in any other Parklands’ ponds.
