AILA recognises Centennial Parklands through AILA Stewardship Award
The Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust (Trust) recently received an award from the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA).
The AILA Stewardship Award was given to the Trust for its exceptional conservation of Centennial Parklands through its Park Improvement Plan 2003 - 2010.
The Award may be awarded to any agency responsible for the management and stewardship of public lands. The Award acknowledges the integrity of design while recognising that landscapes should be allowed to evolve and may go through processes of change.
The Trust was commended for developing its overall Park Improvement Plan with outstanding rigour and consultation. The Park Improvement Plan 2003 – 2010 ensures a park system that is sustainable, attractive, cost effective, safe and of high quality.
Director and Chief Executive of Centennial Parklands, Steve Corbett said ‘We are extremely proud to have been given this inaugural award. It is a wonderful recognition of the vision we have as custodians, to balance and effectively manage the past, present and future needs of Centennial Parklands.’
An integral part of that Plan, the Ponds Restoration Program was the most extensive project undertaken by the Trust and was highlighted for comment by AILA. The completion of the restoration Program has resulted in enormous environmental benefits, improved water quality, increased habitat for fauna and an increased awareness of the ponds and the vital role they play in Centennial Parklands eco-system.
