Planting for the future in Queens Park

The Centennial Parklands Foundation will be supporting the 10th anniversary of National Tree Day with tree plantings, a tree dedication ceremony and a sausage sizzle.

A number of families have taken the opportunity to support the Foundation by dedicating a tree on this day. The thousands of dollars raised by these dedications will help fund future educational and environmental projects initiated by the Foundation.

The event will be held in Queens Park (corner of York & Darley Road) at 12.00 pm with a sausage sizzle kicking off the activities followed by the Tree Dedication Ceremony at 1.00 pm.

Over the last two months, more than 300 trees have been planted around Centennial Parklands including Queens Park, the Moore Park Golf Course and the newly renovated Parkands Sports Centre.

Tree plantings in Centennial Parklands form part of a broader approach to tree management which is outlined in the Tree Master Plan. The Plan promotes minimal change and emphasises incremental tree planting and replacement programs. It identifies the special qualities of the existing tree population, its Victorian character and establishes a framework for conservation.

Should anyone wish to contribute to the future of the Parklands, there are several ways to do so. Donations can be made on Sunday or at a later date or become a Friend of Centennial Parklands. All monies donated on Sunday will be used toward future tree plantings in Centennial Parklands.
