Swing with the stars

Have a ball at the re-launching of the Moore Park Golf Driving Range on Tuesday 5 July 2005 at 10.45 am.

Putt for a Prize or take a swing with celebrities and golfing professionals alike to celebrate the refurbishment of one of Sydney’s best kept secrets.

Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation Sandra Nori said ‘This fantastic public golf course, a public asset for the people of New South Wales, is just five kilometres from the CBD of Sydney. The newly renovated Driving Range is the perfect place to have fun with friends or for the serious golfer, put in some work on your game.’

Join Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickinson and Mark Baretta to see who can hit the longest ball. Or test your accuracy and aim to raise funds for charity.

The refurbishment includes the installation of a synthetic surface - the first on a public golf course in Australia.

Synthetic surfaces have been used successfully overseas in many locations. With more than 10 million golf balls hit from the Moore Park Golf Driving Range each year, the range is ideally suited to this treatment.

The three-tiered, 60 bay undercover driving range is open daily from daybreak until 10.00pm. Visitors are welcome to use the driving range and bookings are not necessary.

Other recently completed projects include the addition of 12 outdoor tables and 50 chairs in the Patio Bar. Extensive landscaping has also been undertaken around the Clubhouse garden beds and embankment between the clubhouse and the driving range.

A low hedge has been planted to reduce the amount of shade and encourage turf growth around the putting green and to improve its surface and new seating and ball washers have been installed throughout the course.

These improvements were undertaken as part of the Moore Park South Master Plan which was developed in 2002 to provide the framework for the renewal and redevelopment of Moore Park South while protecting the inherent values of the site.

A key goal of the Plan is to develop and implement strategies which will address the diverse leisure and recreational needs of users of this area.

Refreshments will be served.
