The first two upgraded public amenity buildings in Centennial Parklands will be open to the public on 26 February 2005. An additional two buildings of this style are due for completion later this year.

The buildings combine many ecologically sustainable features such as natural light and ventilation, solar panels, natural and recycled materials and a landscape bio-filter to treat grey water. The first two are situated on Grand Drive near Federation Valley and Dickens Drive near Lachlan Swamp.

When completed, a total of approximately 2 mega litres (or 2 million litres) of water will be saved by Centennial Parklands each year - approximately the equivalent of two Olympic-sized swimming pools.

The buildings’ water efficient design includes:

• Waterless urinals and water efficient flushing which saves approximately 876,000 litres per year
• Timed flow tap ware saving 43,000 litres per year and
• Hand washing water and roof water is filtered and returned to the pond system allowing 87,600 litres per year to be retained in the Parklands
