Ford Fiesta Moonlight Cinema is an open air cinema screening latest release, contemporary, cult and classic movies on the lawns of the picturesque Belvedere Amphitheatre (on the corner of Loch Avenue and Broome Avenue), Centennial Park.

The summer 2008-09 season runs from 4 December 2008 to 15 March 2009, so gather a group of friends, book your tickets and relax with a picnic as the sun sets and the screen lights up. Gates open at 7.00 pm and screenings start at sundown, approximately 8.30 pm.

The maximum crowd capacity for any screening night is 2,000.

The cinema area requires a number of days to install and dismantle the infrastructure. Event site installation will commence on Wednesday 26 November 2008 with the site fenced off to the general public for safety reasons. Dismantling of the event site will be completed by Wednesday 18 March 2009, when full access will be restored to visitors.

Once the cinema season commences, visitors may access the cinema area during the day until 5.00 pm.

Gates open at 7.00 pm. Arrive early to ensure a great spot on the lawn and give yourself time to relax and enjoy a picnic or onsite catering before the film.

Screenings start at approximately 8:30 pm. The screening times vary slightly during the season according to sundown.

A limited number of bean beds are available for hire at the venue. Prices are $7 plus a $10 (cash only), refundable deposit. Alternatively you can bring low beach chairs (without legs), cushions, blankets and rugs. If you need to bring a chair, you will be directed to sit behind all other patrons at the cinema.

Moonlight Cinema venues are largely smoke-free. However, every venue has a designated smoking area. Any person wishing to smoke is required to enter the designated smoking area to do so.

Please contact the Venue Manager before you leave the cinema to report any lost items and leave your details with them.

In the event that a session is cancelled by Moonlight management due to adverse weather conditions, either prior to or during the film, tickets will be automatically converted to a voucher redeemable for the same ticket type for a future session in the 2008/09 season. You must retain your original tickets (vouchers) in order to redeem them for a ticket to another session. Vouchers can be used to re-book to any session for the remainder of the season at the venue for which the original tickets were purchased (subject to capacity).

Patrons should note that the risk that weather they consider unsatisfactory may occur on a screening night and acknowledge that tickets will not be revalidated unless a screening is cancelled by Moonlight management.

During the online booking process you are asked to enter your mobile number. When you complete this step, you are automatically signed up for the free rainout SMS. In the event of a cancellation, moonlight.com.au will show the session as cancelled, and an SMS will be sent to all ticket holders. Staff will also be at the venue to notify patrons on arrival.

It is possible to bring dogs to the Moonlight Cinema venues, however it is not recommended. If a dog is brought into the venue it must be kept on a short leash (2m or under) at all times. The owner is required to respect the park as well as other patrons by picking up after the dog, and keeping it quiet during the film.

There is limited parking available within Centennial Park, and entry is via Woollahra Gate on Oxford Street. Free parking is available on Carrington Drive, which is one-way from east to west for the duration of the cinema season.

Yes, the park will be open for all regular park visitors. Due to patrons attending the event, there may be increased traffic in the Parklands resulting in traffic congestion at times.

Carrington Drive will become one-way from east to west at 5.30 pm each evening during the Moonlight Cinema season screening days. Parking is available north of the dotted line from
6.00 pm.

Other impacts include:

• GATE CLOSURES: all gates as per normal operations with gates closing at sunset. Cinema parking entry via Woollahra gate, cinema exit via Woollahra and Paddington gates

There will be no external road closures as a result of this event.

Centennial Parklands and the surrounding precincts are places for enjoyment by the broad community and have been for over one hundred years. All events in Centennial Parklands are consistent with the Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust’s (Trust) Plan of Management.

The Trust is not unlike other State Government agencies in the park management, arts, cultural and recreation sector which have not been fully funded by government for many years. Many agencies have been given the opportunity to raise part of their revenue and it is not envisaged that this position will change in the near future.

Events are one way by which the Trust can deliver on both the Government’s commitment to diversity of experiences and the requirement to manage the Parklands in a financially responsible manner. Revenue raised from events assists the Trust to plant new trees, improve amenities, upgrade infrastructure, provide safe conditions for cyclists and address the day-to-day management needs of the Parklands.

A Traffic Management Plan specific to this event has been developed in conjunction with the Trust. This Traffic Management Plan aims to address safety concerns and minimise impact on neighbouring residents and traffic within Centennial Parklands. The Trust strongly encourages event patrons to use public transport to and from the event site to minimise traffic and parking issues in the local area.

The Trust is committed to complying with all legislation regarding the protection of the environment and works with event organisers to minimise environmental impacts, prior to, during and after the event.

Sound monitoring will be conducted for Moonlight Cinema during the sound checks and first night screening, which will establish appropriate sound levels for the season.

The Trust undertakes to inform neighbouring residents of the event and any traffic changes prior to the event occurring. The Trust provides information via its website, Parklands magazine, Courier newspaper columns and by letterbox drop.
