Eastern Suburbs Relay for Life

The 4th annual Relay for Life is a fun, outdoor and overnight fund-raising event where teams of 10 to 15 people take turns to walk around a local oval.

The event honours those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Transport Info

Centennial Parklands is less than five kilometres from the Sydney central business district.

Centennial Parklands encourages the use of public transport. It is easy to get here by bus, train, car, bike or on foot. Please visit our Getting to the Parklands page for more detailed public transport information. If you do drive, there are parking options available within Centennial Parklands, however on weekends and major event days there may be parking restrictions and traffic congestion.

Frequently Asked Questions about events in Centennial Parklands

What is the event?

Relay For Life is a 24 hour walkathon to raise funds for the NSW Cancer Council.  Relay for Life is not a race, instead participants walk at a leisurely pace around the oval. It’s an opportunity to make a team with family and friends or to join with your work mates. Whether you stay for just a few hours or the whole event, your support will make a difference in the fight against cancer. The event will be held from 10.00 am Saturday 19 May until 10.00 am Sunday 20 May 2012 at the McKay Sports Ground in Centennial Park. Food, drinks, fun activities and entertainment will be available throughout the event.

Which areas of Centennial Parklands are impacted by this event and when?

Relay For Life will take place at McKay Sports Ground. Installation of equipment and infrastructure will commence on Friday 18 May with full access restored to the public on Monday 21 May 2012.

I am not attending the event, will I still be able to access Centennial Parklands on the event day/s?

Yes. You can still access Centennial Parklands on the event days but please note that some traffic delays and limited parking in the vicinity of McKay Sports Ground are expected.

What will the traffic and access impacts be?

Due to the scale of this event some traffic congestion and delays are anticipated in the vicinity of the event site around McKay Sports Ground. We recommend you plan your trip and use public transport: www.131500.com.au

There will be no road closures for this event.

PARKING

Regular parking availability and restrictions will apply in Centennial Park.

GATE CLOSURES

All gates will operate as per normal (late exits via Robertson Road and Paddington Gates until 10.30 pm on Saturday 19 May).

HORSE TRACK CLOSURE

There will be no closure of the horse track.

CYCLE LANE CLOSURE

There will be no impact on the cycle lane.

EXTERNAL ROAD CLOSURES

There will be no road closures for this event.

Will Centennial Parklands Dining be open as usual?

Yes.

Will the Centennial Park Cycle Hire still be operating?

Yes.

Will there be any sound impacts related to this event?

Yes. There will be minimal sound coming from the event and some live music played between 10.00 am to 9.00 pm only. The event will be monitored to ensure the sound limits are maintained.

The Trust is committed to complying with all legislation and guidelines covering amplified sound levels at outdoor events.  The Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust Noise Management Plan is available on our website.
