Moonlight Cinema
Ford Focus Moonlight Cinema is an open air cinema screening latest release, contemporary, cult and classic movies on the lawns of the picturesque Belvedere Amphitheatre (on the corner of Loch Avenue and Broome Avenue), Centennial Park.
The summer 2011-12 season runs from 8 December 2011 to 25 March 2012, so gather a group of friends, book your tickets and relax with a picnic as the sun sets and the screen lights up.

ONE80PROJECT - Sunday 18 March
This Sunday 18 March 2012 Moonlight Cinema, in-conjunction with MTV, will be hosting the Optus ONE80Project. The Optus ONE80Project gives aspiring TV, filmmakers, directors, producers or anyone who is keen to crack into the Aussie TV and film industry a shot at TV drama production. Entrants are asked to submit a 180 second pilot for a chance to get their idea produced and aired on MTV.
Last year’s winning entrant will be screened, along with the pilots from the 10 finalists from this year, with the winner announced later in the evening. The event will be hosted by Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa with a live acoustic performance by Darren Hayes. Panel judges include David Wenham and Lincoln Lewis.

Centennial Parklands is less than five kilometres from the Sydney central business district.

FAQs
Which areas of Centennial Park are impacted by this event and when?
Event infrastructure will occupy the Belvedere Amphitheatre (on the corner of Loch Avenue and Broome Avenue) in Centennial Park from Wednesday 30 November 2011 to Thursday 29 March 2012.
The cinema area requires some days to build and dismantle. The Belvedere Amphitheatre event site build will commence on Wednesday 30 November 2011 with the site fenced off to the general public for safety reasons. The dismantling of the event site will be finished by Thursday 29 March 2012, when full access will be restored to the public.
The Ford Focus Moonlight Cinema Summer 2011/2012 season runs from the 8 December 2011 to 25 March 2012.
Gates open at 7.00 pm and screenings start at sundown, approximately 8.30 pm.
The maximum crowd capacity for any screening night is 2000.
I am not attending the event, can I still access Centennial Park on the day?
Yes, the Park will be open for all regular park users, however for safety reasons some access conditions will apply during the bumpin (30 November – 8 December 2011) and bumpout (26 – 28 March 2012) phases.
Belvedere Amphitheatre will be open for patronage until 5.00 pm each screening day, after that time, the site will be closed in preparation for the evenings event.
Special Sunday sessions will occur on 18 December, 18 January and 18 March, when the event site will be closed to park patrons at the earlier time of 2.30pm.
What will the internal traffic impacts and road closures be?
To facilitate easier patron access and parking in the vicinity the following traffic changes will occur:
Internal road closures:
Carrington Drive will become one-way from Woollahra Gates to Paddington Gates at 5.30pm, December through to March each Moonlight Cinema screening day. Parking is available north of the dotted line from 6pm.
Broome Avenue will be closed December 2011 through to March 2012.
Loch Avenue is closed from Grand Drive to Woollahra Gates from approximately 7.30pm each evening on Moonlight Cinema screening nights only.
Gate closures:
None – all gates as per normal operations. Cinema parking entry via Woollahra & Paddington Gates, cinema exit via Paddington Gates only.
Mobility Pass Holder Access:
Designated parking is available for mobility parking holders on Carrington Drive, between Woollahra Gates and Broome Avenue.
Parking restrictions:
Special Events Clearways are set up along Loch Ave North from 7.00 pm – 1.00 am. No parking is permitted on Loch Ave North.
There is limited parking available within Centennial Park, and entry is via Woollahra Gates on Oxford Street. Free parking is available on Carrington Drive, which is one-way from east to west for the duration of the cinema season.
Will there be any external road closures related to this event?
No, all event related road closures are contained within Centennial Park.
Will there be any sound impacts related to this event?
Sound and projection testing will occur on:
- Monday 5 December – audio testing between 12.00 – 5.00 pm
- Tuesday 6 December – projector sound testing between 3.00 – 5.00 pm, screen sound checking between 6.00– 8.00 pm, screen film testing between 8.00– 10.30 pm
- Wednesday 7 December – Sydney testing between 3.00– 5.00 pm, screen sound testing between 5.30 – 8.00 pm, screen film testing between 8.00 – 10.30 pm
Noise levels are expected to be the same as per screening nights. An EPA sound test will also take place on the evening of 8 December. The noise is not expected to be continuous.
We work closely with the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) and are committed to comply with all legislation and guidelines covering permissible sound levels at outdoor events. This includes pre-event sound checking, as well as event day monitoring and management of noise levels to adjust according to the prevailing weather conditions (e.g. wind strength and direction).
