Rose Garden

The Rose Garden, located adjacent to Busbys Pond in the heart of the historic Centennial Park, is the ideal location for an intimate outdoor wedding.

This area was first planted in 1909 and has been a favoured location for floral exhibitions over the years - in fact on one Sunday alone in 1917 an estimated 20,000 people passed through its fragrant rows!

The Rose Garden was recently renovated in the early 2000s and many new varieties of plants such as Olympic Gold, Brass Band and Blueberry Hill roses were added. Old favourites such as Peace, Peter Frankenfeld and Double Delight were replanted.

The site does not have power and visitors cannot peg infrastructure, however this garden provides a memorable backdrop for any wedding.

Any prospective clients should note that the Rose Garden's presentation is subject to seasonal variation, and they should seek advice on this at time of application.

 

Column Garden

The Column Garden, located adjacent to Busbys Pond in the heart of the historic Centennial Park, is the most popular location in Centennial Parklands for outdoor weddings.

The Garden takes its name from the sandstone column erected on the promontories of Busbys Pond in 1890. This column is one of two columns that were from the demolished portico of the old Australian Museum.

The site does not have power and visitors cannot peg infrastructure, however this garden provides a memorable backdrop for any wedding.

Any prospective clients should note that the Column Garden's floral presentation is subject to seasonal variation, and they should seek advice on this at time of application.

Other locations

Centennial Parklands is approximately 360 hectares in size, and has numerous areas that would be suitable for intimate, outdoor wedding venues.

We have had weddings in the formal gardens (eg Rose Garden, Column Garden), beside ponds, at places that hold special memories for the couple, and even overlooking the Golf Course at Moore Park Golf.

While there are some restrictions on possible venues due to environmental or Parklands infrastructure protection and we do not guarantee a specific location can be used, we would be happy to discuss ideas with you at time of application.

 

Wedding Reception Venues

Centennial Parklands Dining

Centennial Parklands Dining has been a popular location for wedding receptions for decades.

In 2008-09 this building has been magnificently refurbished and is now available for hire as a wedding venue.

The restaurant is operated by Trippas White, and all information and contact details relating to wedding receptions can be found through the CP Dining website.

 

Moore Park Golf House

Moore Park Golf's historic, heritage-listed Golf House is available to host weddings receptions.

Affordable wedding and party packages include everything you will need to make ensure your special day is easy to organise and enjoyable on the day.

The heritage-listed golf house has presided over the greens and fairways since 1926. Views from the function rooms are especially beautiful at sunset and during in the evening, you and your guests will enjoy the spectacular views of the golf course and the city skyline as the night falls.

Moore Park is conveniently located and there is plenty of free parking for your guests.

Wedding Photography

For those who have booked a Wedding Ceremony in Centennial Park

Centennial Parklands has over 360 hectares of public parkland and a wide range of spaces and environments to choose from.

While couples have different expectations and desires, we recommend the following popular locations for wedding photography:

• Formal Gardens in Centennial Park (Column Garden, Rose Garden)
• Lily Pond (includes the white picket bridge over the water)
• Beside Busbys Pond (beautiful slopes leading down to a wide stretch of water)
• Duck Pond (for an experience that includes our native water birds as a feature)
• Pine Grove (a secluded area of pine trees providing mystique and privacy)
• Sandstone Ridge (for a more rustic, woodland backdrop)
• Moore Park Golf (with the gentle rolling greens and fairways in the background)
• Paperbark Grove (within a long row of mature Paperbark trees)

 

In fact there are endless locations and backdrops to choose from. Some of these can be seen in the examples of wedding photography below.

For wedding ceremonies held in Centennial Parklands, there is no additional wedding photography fee. For wedding ceremonies not held in the Parklands, please refer to the Fees and Charges information below for details on the nominal administration fee applicable.

Centennial Parklands features many beautiful areas available for hire for Wedding Ceremonies and Photography.

Wedding Photography permits are required separately if you are holding your ceremony elsewhere.

Fees and Charges

Centennial Parklands has a range of fees and charges covering outdoor weddings location bookings and photography.

Find out more information on fees and charges for:

• Outdoor wedding ceremonies: The fee (2012-13) for an outdoor wedding ceremony is $290.
• Wedding Photography: there is no additional charge for weddings held in the Parklands, however for those not held in the Parklands but who wish to use the venue for photography, refer to the Filming and Photography Rate Card from this page.

Regulations

Like all great parks in the world, Centennial Parklands has rules and regulations to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all visitors. The rules also help us protect the Parklands’ plant and animal life.

While we endeavour to meet as many specific wedding-related requests as possible, on occasion we will not be able to approve some activities due to the nature of the activity, or the potential impact on the environment or wildlife. Additionally, it is important to note that pegging is not permitted in many areas of the Parklands due to the risk to the underground irrigation system.

Application Form

Wedding ceremonies and wedding photography are welcome in Centennial Parklands. If you are interested in applying to have your special day in Centennial Parklands you are required to complete one of the following interactive forms:

These forms are interactive PDFs which allow you to type the applicable information directly into the forms. Prior to using these forms you must have Adobe Reader version 8.2 or above installed on your PC or Mac.  These forms will only function correctly when opened in Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader can be freely downloaded from the Adobe Australia website.

Please open and save the form regularly to your hard drive. It can then be emailed as an attachment together with any other documentation as outlined in the form.

Wedding ceremonies (with photography)

Wedding ceremonies are welcome in Centennial Parklands. If you are interested in applying to have your special day in Centennial Parklands you are required to complete a Wedding Ceremony application form. If you book a wedding ceremony in Centennial Park, you do not need to complete an additional application for wedding photography as this is included.

Wedding photography only

If you are having your wedding ceremony elsewhere and you would like to have only your wedding photography in Centennial Parklands, you must apply for a permit, and pay the associated fees applicable. In this case, please complete a Wedding Photography form.
