The Learning Centre
A multi-purpose centre hosting educational experiences and community use facilities.
The 'Learning Centre' is an all-weather facility that is available for use for in-house primary, secondary and tertiary educational programs as well as school holiday children’s programs.
It is also available for other user groups, including volunteer groups, community groups, sports hirers, corporate events and birthday parties before and after school hours as well as on weekends.
All new roof structures are connected to water tanks. These demonstration tanks are for teaching purposes and any remaining rainwater is captured by subterranean beds and is not directly discharged into the ponds.
The new deck is constructed using a recycled wood-plastic composite. The composite materials used require less maintenance than timber and avoids the use of preservatives.
Each lineal metre has approximately 37 recycled plastic milk bottles!
Capacity
The Learning Centre can comfortably hold:
- up to 30 adults/children seated in a classroom configuration
- up to 40 adults or 60 children in an audience-style seating arrangement
In addition, the external decking to the Centre can hold a further 30 to 40 people.
For educational excursions, the Precinct as a whole can cater for up to 120 children (Learning Centre + Community Nursery + Discovery Garden + pond viewing area).
