Nursery Growing Group
The Centennial Parklands Foundation funded the construction of a plant propagation and nursery facility which opened in September 2009 and is still thriving today.
Plant sales are held on the Saturday before Mothers Day and Fathers Day and also in December (see the Centennial Parklands ‘What’s On’ closer to the date). Money raised from the sales goes directly back into the group to enhance facilities and help continue the great work.
Each year around 900 hours of work is delivered by the Growing Group volunteers!
The Growing Group volunteers focus on propagating and selling plant species found within the Parklands' Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub (ESBS) threatened species sites, and also the exotic species found growing within the Parklands' Horticultural displays.
Propagation of the ESBS species will increase community awareness of the Parklands threatened species areas, whilst the propagation of exotics for plant sales will increase community knowledge of the plants used within the Parklands horticultural precinct.
The Group also attracted a grant of $5,500 from the Australian Chinese Charity Foundation to go towards Nursery improvements.
The Volunteer Growing Group is held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month.
